BPA [bisphenol A] is an industrial chemical found in plastic, epoxy resins, and even food and water containers. This chemical has been linked to adverse health effects in fetuses, newborns and children.
VOCs (Volatile organic compounds) are chemicals from specific solids or liquids (like wax, paints and varnishes) that can be emitted as gas. It has been proven that this easily inhaled chemical may lead to cancer, liver, and kidney diseases.
Formaldehyde is something you want to stay away from because it is a cancerous, strong-smelling, colorless gas commonly found in pressed-wood products.
Phthalates disrupt the body's hormones and some are known carcinogens. The chemicals from baby gear and wallpaper can be ingested, inhaled or absorbed.

Sustainability comes in many forms, from ethical labor practices that give back to the surrounding community, to environmental protection - like zero-waste manufacturing or planting trees for each product sold.
No two sheep grow the same coat, so no two of these sheepskins are alike! The Heirloom Baby Sheepskin (One of a Kind) by Modern Nursery Organics comes from pasture-raised Frisian and Texel sheep in the Netherlands, and the one in the photo is the very one that comes home to you, every cream swirl and beige spot included. Spread it on the nursery floor for tummy time, layer it over the glider, or pack it for picnics and road trips. We can vouch for them: they have helped our babies sleep better and stay comfortable. Each hide is handmade and slowly tanned in a herbal tea of willow, oak and spruce bark. Pick your favorite, and the Heirloom Baby Sheepskin becomes a keepsake that stays in the family for years of snuggles to come!

Washing and care: Shake it out, vacuum it, or brush it with a metal wire animal brush whenever it starts to look shaggy (about once a month). For spit-up or a diaper blowout, blot up the moisture, then spot clean with our favorite cleaner, Branch Basics. Wool is naturally antimicrobial, so it doesn't need cleaning the way cotton does. Air it out of direct sunlight.
Frequently asked questions
How do I clean my sheepskin?
Mostly with a good shake. Sheepskins are naturally antimicrobial and repel a lot of dirt, so they're easy to keep lovely. Shake it outside to clear debris, brush it with a wire animal brush to fluff it up, or give it a quick vacuum. For spills, spit-up and even a diaper blowout, a little warm water and gentle soap go a long way. Sheepskins air out well and do nicely on a line, and the lighter ones do best out of direct sunlight.
